Jammu and Kashmir sanctioned Rs 800 crore for vital health projects

New Delhi, Nov 23: The Centre has released Rs 836.64 crore out of the sanctioned allocation of Rs 900 crore under a financial assistance programme for vital health projects in Jammu and Kashmir, an official spokesperson said on November 22. Out of the total 144 ongoing and new health projects approved under the Prime Minister's Development Package (PMDP), 48 projects have been completed and will be made functional soon, the spokesperson said. The information was given at a meeting chaired by Financial Commissioner, Health and Medical Education, Atal Dulloo in Srinagar on Thursday to review the works being undertaken under PMDP in the health sector, the spokesperson said. During the meeting, it was informed that a target has been set to complete the rest of the 96 projects by the next financial year 2020-21, the spokesperson said. Another round of good rain and snow soon over J&K, Himachal, Uttarakhand

Srinagar, Nov 23:  The Western Disturbance’s presence over Jammu and Kashmir has caused widespread rain and snow activities over the hills of North. In the last 24 hours, significant snowfall has been observed over the hills. Like for instance, snowfall activity has been observed in many places. Kashmiri Apple storm hits Middle East

Srinagar, Nov 23:  The Kashmiri grown apples have taken the Middle East market by a storm as about 200 tons of fruit were sold within weeks after hitting the retail stores in the Middle East. The UAE -based retail company ‘Lulu Group’ that was in the Valley last month had taken 200 tons of apples as “sample” to be tested in the Middle East markets before signing a deal with local growers here. Talking to Rising Kashmir, Director Lulu Group of Oman, Sri Lanka, and India, A V Ananth said the product (Kashmiri apple) got a massive response from the consumers in the Middle East countries like UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Oman. “Apples have been a massive hit in the retail market and consumers like it. We sold all 200 tons of Kashmiri apples within few days after its arrival,” he said. Srinagar, Nov 23:  The Jammu and Kashmir police shot a mail to media Friday evening inadvertently revealing a list of Twitter handles, it has monitored in the month of September, sharing news and updates on the ground situation in Kashmir. The email was received from Police Media Center as a press release informing about the arrest of three drug peddlers and seizure of contraband substances along with three attachments—two of which were photographs of the drug bust carried out by police in Bonpora Budgam. In the email, however, a document titled DNA Sep.docx was also attached, which included tweets from various social media handles on the micro-blogging site Twitter. Cinema hall in Anantnag reopened after 30 years

Anantnag, Nov 21: A cinema hall in south Kashmir town here was reopened by CRPF after 30 years of shutdown post terrorist attacks. A senior CRPF officer said the cinema hall was reopened to provide some relief to the people from the mental stress. “There is no entertainment available to the people, particularly youths, in the Anantnag district,” he said, adding it was decided to at least open the cinema hall, where latest and old films will be screened.

Indian couple go on trial in Germany for spying on Kashmiris and Sikhs on behalf of RAW

Berlin, Nov 21: An Indian couple accused of spying on Sikh and Kashmiri communities in Germany went on trial Thursday on charges that carry a sentence of up to 10 years in prison. The suspects were charged in March and have been named only as Manmohan S., 50, and his wife Kanwal Jit K., 51, in keeping with German privacy rules for defendants. Their trial was being held in a court in Frankfurt. "Manmohan S. agreed... to provide information about Germany's Sikh community and Kashmir movement and their relatives to an employee of the Indian foreign intelligence service Research & Analysis Wing," prosecutors said in a statement earlier this year. J-K sanctions transport subsidy scheme to encourage fuel efficient buses

Jammu, Nov 21: To encourage the introduction of eco-friendly fuel-efficient buses, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has formally accorded sanction to a scheme to provide Rs 5 lakh subsidy to transporters for replacement of 15-year old buses. In an order issued on Tuesday, Principal Secretary of the Transport department Asgar Hassan Samoon said the scheme is intended to provide impetus to public transport by providing subsidy to transporters for introducing new eco-friendly fuel-efficient buses compliant to BS-IV and above norms. Samoon said it would ensure optimum usage of the available road space by transporting the maximum number of people per unit of road space, thus obviating the problem of congestion, traffic jams and pollution. 'The scheme is also intended to help in curtailing rising car ownership, the problem of vehicle parking and reduced road space,' he said, adding that the scheme may be extended to minibuses or matadors in the near future.
